A Little Story of Who We Are and Why We Are Here
What happens when two people ditch the alarm clock and trade their perfect house for a home on wheels? (Spoiler alert: Sometimes it involves taking photos of grizzlies with one of your Animal Cams!) Read on to learn when we started living The Life We Designed.
Let me take you back to the year 2000 – when Wayne and I went slightly crazy (according to our friends) and decided to make our escape.
Five-yard sales later (because apparently, we had enough stuff to warrant FIVE of them), we pointed our newly-acquired travel trailer, which was then parked in Colorado, toward Alaska. Why start small when you can go big, right?
Picture this: 3,500 miles of adventure, zero smartphone navigation, and yours truly sitting in the passenger seat of our truck with two film cameras (dubbed my “Animal Cams”) ready to capture any wildlife that dared cross our path.
Finding internet access meant hunting down tiny libraries in the Yukon that were open approximately three hours every third Tuesday of the month (I might be exaggerating, but only slightly).
Fast-forward 300,000 miles (nope, that’s not a typo), and we’re still living this wonderfully unconventional life. When people hear our story, they usually lean in and whisper, “I would love to do that!” with a gleam in their eyes that I recognize all too well.
That’s exactly why we created this community. While the days of hunting for library internet are long gone (thank goodness!)., taking a leap from the 9-to-5 grind to freedom on wheels still takes a special kind of courage—and maybe a little crazy—the good kind of crazy, though!
